Bally Chohan congrats India Team for thier huge win on New Zealand

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

DAMBULLA (Sri Lanka): India relied on Virender Sehwag’s swashbuckling century and an inspired show of swing bowling to spank New Zealand by 105 runs and cruise into the final of the tri-series on Wednesday.

While the flamboyant Sehwag (110) notched up his 13th ODI century to steer India to a competitive 223 after four early jolts, the pace bowlers than came up with fine exhibition of swing and control to skittle out the Kiwis for 118 in 30.1 overs.

The Indians, who desperately needed to win the floodlit contest to stay afloat, owed their victory to the brilliance of Sehwag who gave them enough runs on the board to push for a win on a tricky pitch at the Rangiri international stadium.

Chasing 224 for win, The Kiwis found the going tough under lights as the Indian speedsters extracted a lot of swing to virtually rip through the top-order.

Praveen Kumar struck the first blow for the Indians by dismissing opener Martin Guptill for a first ball duck, trapping him leg before with a gem of a delivery.

Ashish Nehra then removed the other opener Bradley- John Watling with a big inswinger. Watling plays it onto the stumps as he looked to steer clear of the delivery.

The Kiwis suffered a big jolt when their captain Ross Taylor was dismissed by Kumar, who really looked impressive as he troubled all the batsmen with swing.

Taylor fell prey to a lovely outswinger as he hung his bat out and edged the ball to Dhoni behind the stumps, leaving New Zealand tottering at 14 for three.

Kumar added another wicket to his kitty soon when he bowled Scot Styris while Ishant Sharma evicted Kane Williamson to compound the misery for the Kiwis.

Reduced to a precarious 42 for six by the 17th over, it was only a matter of time before the innings folded up, though Mills hit some lusty shots in the fag end to reduce the margin of defeat.

Earlier, barring Sehwag, none of the other Indian batsmen could really get going though captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (38) played a good supporting role.

Tim Southee (4/49) was the pick of the Kiwis bowlers though he was a trifle expensive. Spinner Nathan McCullum (3/35) and Kyle Mills (2/42) were the other wicket-taking bowlers.

The Indian innings began on a disastrous note with Dinesh Karthik, who has been in woeful form right through the series, returning to the pavilion in the very first over off Kyle Mills.

It was a horrendous shot from the Indian opener as he poked at a length delivery outside the off stump, edging it to wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins behind the stump. He paid the price for fishing out even without getting his eye in.

Virat Kohli, who replaced Rohit Sharma in the team, joined the action after Karthik’s dismissal but could not survive long, being at the receiving end of a dubious decision.

Kohli (8) looked stunned when Sri Lankan umpire Ashoka de Silva gave him out when he edged an outgoing delivery off Tim Southee to wicketkeeper Hopkins. Television replays picked up some noise and the snickometer showed there was a slight nick.

Despite the early losses, Sehwag showed his customary flamboyance as he unleashed a flurry of strokes and scored the runs at a brisk pace.

Sehwag was particularly severe on Mills as he clobbered him for two consecutive boundaries and then hammered Southee for a couple of boundaries.

During the course of the innings, Sehwag became the seventh batsmen in ODIs to hit 1000 boundaries. The record of hitting the most number of boundaries in ODIs is held by Sachin Tendulkar who has 1927 boundaries.

The Indians suffered a big jolt when Yuvraj Singh (6) also perished in the 12th over to a poor shot with Andy McKay being the wicket-taker.

Yuvraj attempted a pull shot but his balance was all awry and he only managed to top edge the ball for the wicketkeeper to latch on to a superb catch.

The ball climbed just below chest high and Yuvraj tried to pull it from well outside off stump which accounted for his wicket.

It was then Suresh Raina’s turn to return to the pavilion and the Indians found themselves in the doldrums at a precarious 66 for four by the 13th over.

Raina, who has always been vulnerable to shirt pitched deliveries, paid the price for a faulty pull to a ball that was not too short.

Raina was quick to get on to the back foot but pulled it to short midwicket fielder Kane Williamson who dived to his right to take a good catch.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sehwag tried to steady the innings by playing cautiously and punishing only the loose deliveries.

Both gradually accelerated the pace of scoring after getting a feel of the conditions and the measure of the rather spongy track at the Rangiri International stadium.

Sehwag took a single off spinner Williamson to complete his 13th ODI century which came off just 87 balls.

Spinner Nathan McCullum brought an end to the 107-run fifth wicket partnership by evicting the dangerous Sehwag soon after he completed his century, much to the relief of his teammates.

Sehwag holed out at deep midwicket as a tried to pick McCullum’s flighted delivery from outside off and swung it straight to the fielder. His knock of 110 came off just 93 balls and was laced with 16 boundaries and a six.

Bally Chohan congrats SriLanka Cricket Team for thier Fast win

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

The Sri Lankan cricketers led by Kumar Sangakkara treated the “aggressive” Indian players as school kids and thrashed them by 8 wickets to enter the tri-series final in style. They also won a bonus point.

It was one of the most shameful and humiliating defeats for Team India in the recent history. Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first with a big smile. But, that remained short-lived, as the Indian batsmen lost the plot to Sri Lankan seamers.

The Indians failed to the flawless pace and bounce attack and finally bowled out for 103 in 33.4 overs. Umpiring took a beating in this match. Sehwag and Yuvraj were unlucky to be given LBW. Yuvraj was the top scorer for India. He made 38.

For Sri Lanka, Thissara Perera took 5 wickets – his first five-wicket haul in ODIs. Malinga and Kulkasekara took 2 wickets each.

Bally Chohan comments on No Ball controversy

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Bally Chohan Dubai (UAE) says that this was Sri Lankan opening batsman Tilakratne Dilshan was the one who told Suraj Randiv to bowl a no ball. As informed the no ball bowled by Suraj Randiv denied Indian opener Virender Sehwag his century during their encounter with Sri Lanka in Tri-Series being played at Dambula, Sri Lanka.

Bally Chohan says that as per a local newspaper report that Suraj Randiv bowled no ball under instruction from Tilakratne Dilshan. Sri Lankan board has already ordered an enquiry into the incident. The report of enquiry by team manager is already submitted to the Sri Lankan board. However the board is yet to take any action on the recommendations.

Bally Chohan has come to know that Sri Lankan board of cricket is expected to meet today afternoon to decide on final action. In all probability the Sri Lankan board is expected to ban or at least fine Suraj Randiv & Tilakratne Dilshan. As per the Sri Lankan newspaper ‘The Island’ it was Dilshan who suggested Randiv to bowl a no ball. Sehwag did hit the ball for six however was denied since India needed only one run to win and the run was added to their score by virtue of no ball. Tilakratne Dilshan shouted in Sinhalese ‘oney nam, no ball ekak danna puluwan’ meaning ‘bowl a no ball, if you want to’. The report submitted to Sri Lankan board went on to mention that none of the Sri Lankan player reacted to that.

Sri Lankan team captain mentioned this incident during his post match conference whereby saying that someone may have suggested Suraj Randiv to bowl the no ball. Kumar Sangakkara confirmed that this was deliberate and he will make sure that this is not repeated again. Tilakratne Dilshan is incidentally Virender Sehwag’s team mate at the Indian Premier League side Delhi Daredevils.

Bally Chohan Dubai UAE says that Sri Lankan cricket boards has already initiated an inquiry into the incident and have also apologized to the Indian team management. The Board for Control of Cricket in India has already said that as far as they are concerned this is a closed chapter and the board would not like to pursue the case any further.

India beat Sri Lanka with bonus points

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

India defeated Sri Lanka in the third match of the tri-series. Indian team bowled out Sri Lankan team below forty overs to claim additional bonus points. However Sri Lanka prevented Indian opener Virender Sehwag from completing a brilliant century. Virender Sehwag remained not out on 99 and helped India in beating Sri Lanka comfortably by six-wickets.

Sehwag was just one short of his century when India needed five runs to win the match. Sri Lankan bowler Suraj Randiv gave four byes and bowled a big no ball. Sehwag did smashed the no ball for six but the runs were not counted since India needed just one run to win and they got that run from the no ball bowled by Suraj Randiv. Sehwag remained not out at 99.

It clearly looked as if the bowler Suraj Randiv bowled a deliberate no ball. Suraj Randiv has his back foot where bowlers normally have their front foot while bowling. However Virender Sehwag took it sportingly and had no complaints whatsoever. He said that bowlers all over try to do this when batsmen are on 99.

This win has brought Indian team back on track as they had suffered a humiliating 200 runs defeat in the hands of New Zealand in their opening match of the tournament.

Bally Chohan says that Indian team bowlers rose to the occasion and exploited the helpful conditions in the first half to bundle out Sri Lankan team for a paltry total of 170 runs. Kumar Sangakkara, Sri Lankan captain won toss in the morning and elected to bat first. Virender Sehwag was the hero of run chase by Indian side. Virender Sehwag batted through the innings and made sure that India reach home comfortably. He batted carefully and his innings was a mix of control aggression.

Bally Chohan says that Virender Sehwag’s knock of 99 not out came in a tricky situation and under challenging circumstances.  While chasing Sri Lankan score of 170 runs, the Indian top order batting line up collapsed at the start of their run chase and moreover Suresh Raina their settled batsmen threw his wicket after getting his eyes in and scoring 21 runs. However Virender Sehwag and Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni held Indian innings together and steered their side to a comfortable win.

Bally Chohan says that Virender Sehwag’s 99 runs came in 100 balls and he his eleven fours and two sixes in his innings. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni supported him very well with his 38-ball knock and hit two boundaries in his innings.  Earlier in the innings Indian team lost Dinesh Karthik, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Dinesh Karthik was looking comfortable and scored 10 runs before getting out to a rash shot. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were out without bothering scorers.

Bally Chohan says that Sri Lankan team may well have got out much earlier. Thanks to defiant knocks from lower order batsmen Suraj Randiv and Nuwan Kulasekara that the Sri Lankan team was able to give some respectability to their score card. They put 39 runs for eighth wicket to help Sri Lanka to go past 150 marks.  This was the highest partnership from Sri Lanka.

Monday, August 16th, 2010

The Tata group with a market value of about INR 371,000 crore has overtaken the business houses led by Anil and Mukesh Ambani.  This coincides with fact that the Tata group is searching for its chairman Ratan Tata’s successor.

Bally Chohan says that the Reliance Industries (RIL) with a market value of INR 321,750 crore closely follows Tata Group of companies. Sterlite Group promotes by Anil Agarwal is at third position with a market share of INR 135,300 crore. At fourth position is ADAG, Anil Ambani led Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group) with a market share of 125,000 crore and Sunil Mittal led Bharti group is at fifth position with a market share of INR 120,500 crore.

Bally Chohan says that the groups led by Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani can easily take over Tata group if the market values of Ambani groups are combined. This can very well be possibility in the backdrop of their now harmonious relationship after years of acrimony till a few months ago.  At present the combined market share of both the Ambani groups put together is nearly INR 447,000 crore higher than the Tata group by more than 77,000 crore.

Bally Chohan Dubai says that the end of previous quarter the Tata group was second to the Reliance Group led by Mukesh Ambani. However the Reliance Group led by Mukesh Ambani has declined nearly INR 37,000 crore so far in the current quarter.

Reliance Group led by Anil Ambani, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group was at the third position at the end of the June quarter. Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group’s Mid Cap was around 142,400 crore with seven listed companies. The group led by Anil Ambani was India’s third-most valued group at the end of previous quarter, after the Reliance group of companies led by Mukesh Ambani and Tata Group.

Bally Chohan Movie Review – Peepli Live

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Bally Chohan says that the Peepli Live is a smart little film that has presented the real India without glossing over any sort of contradictions of our democracy. The film is refreshingly fresh story that works touches audiences. Bally Chohan is touched by a scene where so called caretaker of Indian state gifts Natha ‘Lal Bahadur’ (hand pump)  in order to prevent him from committing suicide. However the hand pump remains unutilised for the lack of funds for its fittings. The hand pump lies unused in the Natha’s courtyard and doubles up mostly as a plaything for the village urchins. Also there is an incident where a local Politian tries to gain mileage by gifting Natha a colour television. Finally there are some official from state government who tries all tricks available of garibi-hatao schemes, only to realize in the end that there is nothing to prevent a suffering farmer from committing suicide.

Bally Chohan Dubai feels that the high point of Peepli Live is its script. The script of Peepli Live as per Bally Chohan is smart and sassy. However the life-like portrayal of characters has added life and a refreshing authenticity to the Peepli Live. The actors in the movie are handpicked from Habib Tanvir’s famed Naya Theater troupe. This is the first movie of journalist turned director Anusha Rizvi.

Bally Chohan says that the performance of Raghubir Yadav, Omar Manikpuri and Farrukh Jafer is excellent. Jaffer’s old and acrimonious mother has also come up with a brilliant performance. Bally Chohan Dubai would like to applaud the music of Peepli Live which according to Bally Chohan deserves a special mention. The music of Peepli Live is full of folksy lyrics and tunes by a music group Indian Ocean. The group of Indian Ocean is ably supported by Nageen Tanvir, Brij Mandal and rest.

Bally Chohan feels that the film is Peepli Live has some flaws also. Like the film tends to get repetitive midway. Moreover the Peepli Live lacks the much needed emotional conflict of Natha and his family members. They are left as mostly bystanders in the circus that revolves around them.

However the Peepli Live is by an large a lively and living document on the other India that lives beyond the neon lights and cruising metros. Bally Chohan would like to congratulate Aamir Khan for coming up with yet another ace. However, this time around Aamir Khan is a producer and not leading character in the film.

Bally Chohan Dubai would recommend this movie with a rating of four out of five stars.

However as per reliable sources the film Peepli Live has already recovered its investments by selling rights for approx one hundred million.

Bally Chohan Dubai says that Peepli Live is made on a modest budget of one hundred million that includes cost of marketing and publicity etc. Peepli Live is directed by debutant director Anusha Rizvi.  Anusha Rizvi is a journalist turned director and her directorial debut Peepli Live is a satire on the farmer’s suicide and the subsequent political and media reactions.

Peepli Live is expected to hit six hundred cinema screens all over India on Friday the 13th. The movie will also be releasing in almost one hundred cinemas overseas. However the Peepli Live will not be released in Britain now and is expected to release in Britain sometime during late September.

Bally Chohan is surprised to see the star cast of Peepli Live which has no actor from mainstream cinema. The cast includes some tribals from Bhadwai village in Madhaya Pradsh and many actors are taken from late playwright Habib Tanvir’s theatre troupe Naya Theatre. This includes the main lead of Peepli Live, Omkar Manikpuri who plays the character of Natha in Peepli Live.  The film also stars Naseeruddin Shah from mainstream bollywood cinema.
